AI Is Helpful, But...........

AI Is Helpful, But It Will Never Replace Human Connection

Artificial intelligence has become one of the big talking points of our time. Everywhere you look, someone is either excited about it, worried about it, or wondering what it means for the future. Many of us grew up with movies like Terminator, imagining robots taking over the world. “If you’re of that age you remember the Terminator… taking over the world.”

But now we’re living in a world where AI isn’t science fiction anymore. It’s here, it’s powerful, and it’s woven into everyday life. And sometimes it even gives us a laugh — especially when you discover that in French, ChatGPT loosely translates to “Cat, I farted.” Not quite the futuristic name they were going for.

Still, behind the humour sits something important. People are beginning to turn to AI as a counsellor, a coach, even a companion. And while AI can be incredibly helpful — checking grammar, sparking ideas, helping you think through something — it can’t feel what you feel. It can’t see your face, hear the tone in your voice, or understand the weight behind your words. “It is a tool. It is not a companion.”

One of the dangers is that AI is designed to please. You can tell it something completely unrealistic, and it will often respond with encouragement. That’s why someone even created a code word — “potato” — to force their AI to give honest feedback instead of flattery. Without that, it just kept agreeing with everything he said.

But growth doesn’t come from being agreed with. It comes from being understood, challenged, and supported by someone who can see you — your expression, your emotion, your context.

Human connection brings something AI never will: presence. Emotion. Relationship. Someone once shared that their coach could “see what they were thinking without them actually saying it.” That only comes from time, trust, and genuine connection.

We saw this during COVID. When we were isolated, we realised how deeply we needed each other. “We were isolated… and people really hungered for that personal human interaction.” Even now, you can walk into a restaurant and see whole families on their phones, missing the moment right in front of them.

Coaching, at its heart, is relational. It’s not a transaction. It’s not “you pay me and I talk to you.” It’s walking with someone, helping them see beyond themselves, and supporting them as they step into what’s next. AI can give you information, but it can’t give you relationship.

So if you’re feeling stuck, unsure, or wanting to grow — reach out to a real human being. Talk to someone who can sit with you, hear you, and help you move forward. Whether it’s a coach, a friend, or a family member, you don’t have to do life alone.

If you’d like to explore what’s next or simply process what’s going on, I’m here. No pressure. Just a genuine conversation.
